Kesha Ajose Fisher has been wondering about nurturing and loss. What does it mean to care for others in the midst of pain and trauma?

Kesha Ajose Fisher is a writer, teacher, and social justice activist.

Her debut collection of fictional stories, No God Like the Mother, focuses on the lives and realities of women who have been tasked with holding up the sky, all while the world whispers you’re doing it wrong. Kesha won the 2020 Oregon Book Award for Fiction and The Phoenix Literary Magazine’s Editor’s Choice Award for Short Fiction in 2011 and 2012.

She is dedicated to amplifying the voices of some of the most vulnerable members of our society. Kesha knows that many of life’s burdens fall heaviest on the shoulders of women, and she seeks to expose this reality in her writing. No God Like the Mother delves deep into the lives of women who are expected to keep the world turning while bearing the brunt of its hardships.

Kesha is committed to fighting for social justice. She works in social services, serves as a vocal advocate for immigrants and refugees, and champions equality and education while opposing the poverty that plagues humanity.

She has earned a number of prestigious awards for other essays and stories she has written over the years, including the 2020 Ken Kesey Award for Fiction. Her writing has been published in several online and print collections and in publications such as Multicultural Familia magazine, Alchemy literary magazine, and two appearances in Beyond Black & White magazine.

Kesha Ajose Fisher was born in Chicago and raised in Lagos, Nigeria. She now lives in Oregon with her family and can be found writing, reading, cooking for friends and family, raising her babies, cuddling with her puppy, Oscar, and fighting for social justice for the most vulnerable members of our society. In her free time, Kesha squeezes in a hike through the beautiful green of the Pacific Northwest.
