Will Buckingham

Will Buckingham has recently been wondering about strangers, and how we can get better at dealing with the strangers with whom we share our world.

His most recent book, "Hello, Stranger: How We Find Connection in a Disconnected World" was published by Granta in 2021, and was BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week.

Will has taught at universities across the globe. He has been Associate Professor in Writing and Creativity at De Montfort University, Visiting Associate Professor at Sichuan University, and Visiting Professor at the Parami Institute, Yangon. He has a PhD in philosophy and an MA in Anthropology.

Will is currently a freelance writer and facilitator, and co-director of Wind&Bones, a social enterprise working at the intersection of writing, creativity and social change.

He also writes and curates the popular philosophy website, Looking for Wisdom.

Will is the author of thirteen books, including fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, and academic work in philosophy and museum studies. He is also a contributor to the globally-bestselling The Philosophy Book, and his work has been translated into multiple languages.

Although often found elsewhere in the world, Will is based in Dundee, Scotland. He likes baking, playing classical guitar and jazz piano, hanging out with cats, and learning languages. He’s currently grappling with Burmese.
