Premise Open House and Holiday Book Exchange

Give the gift of a well-worn book you love.

Join us for a warm and welcoming holiday gathering designed to bring the Premise community together. Never been to a Premise session? You are invited to join us to meet Premise participants, check out our beautiful new Premise space in Portland, and participate in a short Premise session.

Here is how it works:

What to Bring: One book from your own shelf that you're willing to gift • It can be modern, a classic, fiction, non-fiction, or poetry • Choose a book that moved you, challenged you, made you laugh, or stuck with you • If you no longer have your copy, a used copy is perfect.

Optional: something sweet or savory to share, or beer or wine. If you cannot bring food or drink, please come anyway

What We Will Do: Exchange books in a few light and fun rounds • Share why the book you brought matters to you Enjoy a short Premise conversation on the poem “Footnote to Howl” Allen Ginsberg as read by Patti Smith.  Connect with people from past sessions • Meet new people and invite friends who are curious about Premise • Experience our beautiful new Portland space

What You Need to Know: Please sign up in advance • After you sign up, we will send directions • You will receive the exact location and the short reading for the mini Premise session
